BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH

The church was built in 1897 and is on the national register of Historic places. This Church is more Swedish than any Kyrka (church) in Sweden! It was built by a group of Swedish immigrants from Klövsjö, Jämtland, Sweden. They keep a close tie with the Church of Klövsjö today. There have been services continually from the start to the present.

PAINTING PRESENTED TO BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN

A print of Klövsjö, Sweden was presented to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nordland Township. It was given in memory of Kjel and Anna Nickander. They were pioneers who helped to build the church in Aitkin County. Many Nordland Township pioneers came from Klövsjö. The wood for the frame came from the Erick Swanson Farm and Store in Glory. It was donated by Joe and Gloria Copley and Dan and Mary Swanson. Gloria's mother Mary (Kolin) Swanson also came from Klövsjö. Klövsjö looks much the same today as it did 150 years ago, according to Randy Wall. It is a beautiful village of mountains and lakes with few modern buildings.

"I climbed up in the rafters in the bell tower at Bethlehem Church in 1997 and found my grandfather's cousin's name, John Sjödin, where he placed it in bee's wax, in 1897. Fun! There were no steps. I don't know if I would do it today."
