Josephine E. Lafferty, 85, Aitkin, died March 16, 2001, at the Riverwood HealthCare Center in Aitkin.
She was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Sentinel Butte, N.D., the daughter of Jeremiah and Ana (Paquette) Lemire. She moved with her family to Aitkin at a young age. She attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1934. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis and worked there for a time. She returned to Aitkin and married Frank G. Lafferty, on Aug. 21, 1945. She has resided here since that time. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin.
Services were held March 20 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Patrick Coyle and Fr. Francis Paquette officiating. Alice Hudson played the piano and special music was provided by family and friends. Pallbearers were: Jerry Cassady, Terry Lafferty, Mike Lafferty, Rick Cassady, Tim Cassady, George Lemire, John Cassady, Terry Dotzler and Cy Lemire.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Lafferty, Aitkin; one brother, Cyril Lemire, Aitkin; sisters, Roseann Peterson, Robbinsdale; and Laura Cassady, Minneapolis; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, in 1976; brother, John and sister, Betty.

Frank Josef Leitner, June 29, 1964, age 82, of Finlayson died June 29, 1964. Survived by his wife Johanna; 4 sons; Michael, Joseph & Leo, St. Paul; George of Finlayson; 3 daughters, Mrs. Leo (Margaret) Dischinger of Rogers, Minn; Mrs. Alfred (Ann) Carlson of St. Paul, Mrs. Robert (Rose) Freer of Alaska. 25 grandchildren, 18 gtgrandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 sons. Frank in the Armed Forces in Germany and Herman of St. Paul. Funeral services at Our Lady of Fatima church, McGrath, Minn. Thursday, 10 a. m.
Interment church cemetery. Friends may call at the Akkerman Mortuary, Mora, Minn. after 2 p. m. Wednesday. Rosary in the church at McGrath 8 p. m. Wednesday.
Delores A. Lemire, 72, Farm Island Township, died
June 12, 2001, at the Riverwood HealthCare Center in Aitkin. She was
born Dec. 1, 1928, in Bemidji, the daughter of Robert and Ada (Lipe)
Marquardt. She attended schools in Bemidji. She married Robert Lemire
on Aug. 12, 1948, at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. They moved
to Bemidji in 1948 and then to Hibbing in 1951 and then to Silver
Bay. They lived in Silver Bay until moving back to Aitkin in 1988
when Bob retired. They lived in Farm Island Township on Bob's grandfather
Benjamin Lemire's homestead. She was a member of the Aitkin American
Legion Auxiliary. A prayer service was held June 17 with Deacon Vernon
Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery
at Camp Ripley near Little Falls. She is survived by her husband,
Robert (Bob); sons and daughters-in-law: Steven and Joan Lemire, Chaska;
and Mark and Maggie Lemire, Aitkin; daughters and sons-in-law: Christine
and John Hendrickson, Minnetonka; Gail and David Dingeman, Los Cabos
Baja, Mexico; and Jean Lemire, Aitkin; grandson, Benjamin Lemire;
brother, William Marquardt, Mesa, Ariz.; and sisters, Geraldine Mattson,
Ellendale, N.D.; and Gloria Milks, Keokuk, Iowa. She was preceded
in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Marquardt. Arrangements
were with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
Robert S. Lemire, 74, Aitkin, died July 3, 2001, at his home in Farm Island Township.
He was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Aitkin, the son of Benjamin and Evelyn (Riley) Lemire. He attended Hickory School and graduated from Aitkin High School in 1944. He attended Bemidji State College majoring in chemistry and math. He was a principal of a country school when he first graduated from BSU. He married Delores Marquardt on Aug. 12, 1948, at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. They lived in Bemidji and moved to Hibbing where he worked for Learch Brothers Company at the Hibbing mines. Later they moved to Silver Bay where he worked for Reserve Mining Company as a superintendent of research and development. They retired and moved back to Farm Island Township where they lived on his grandfather's homestead. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the Aitkin American Legion Lee Post 86 and the Aitkin VFW Roberts-Glad Post No. 1727, was a former member of the Hibbing Jaycees and Hibbing Toastmaster Club, was past commander of the Silver Bay VFW and was police commissioner for the city of Silver Bay. He was a member of the Association of Science of Weights and Measurements and received a doctorate associate professorship in chemistry from the Province of Quebec. He was also featured with Phillpe Cousteau in a Jacques Cousteau documentary on the Great Lakes which aired on one of the Cousteau TV series.
There will be a private family service later at his home. Burial will be in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Ripley.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Steve and Joan Lemire, Chaska; and Mark and Maggie Lemire, Aitkin; daughters and sons-in-law: Christine and John Hendrickson, Minnetonka; Gail and David Dingeman, Los Cabos Baja, Mexico; and Jean Lemire, Aitkin; grandchildren: Benjamin Lemire, Jason and Craig Hendrickson; and brothers, Oliver and Virgil, both of Aitkin, and Herb, Robbinsdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores, in June of 2001; and sister, Lois Chouinard.

WWII
AITKIN ~ Victor J. Lemire, 78, Aitkin, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud after a long illness.
He was born March 5, 1922, to Henry and Flora (Gregoure) Lemire. He attended Hickory School and graduated from Aitkin High School. He served in the Army in the 4025th Signal Service Group. He received the Meritorious Unit Award, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He lived in Farm Island Township most of his life. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Aitkin American Legion Lee Post No. 86, the Aitkin VFW Robert-Glad Post No. 1727 and the Aitkin Moose Lodge No. 1060.
Survivors include his special friend, Geraldine Zwirn; five daughters, Barbara Lemire-Higley, Spring Park Lake, Tonia Grazzini, Tucson, Ariz., Celeste Lemire, Toronto, Canada, Paula Lemire, San Diego, and Leanne Lemire, Lauderdale, Minn.; three sons, Jerald Lemire, Minneapolis, John Lemire, Minneapolis, and Greg Lemire, Aitkin; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Corrine Harte, Kansas City, Mo., and Dorothy Schuman, Prior Lake.
Two sisters, Veronica Grahn and Sister Celestine Lemire, and two brothers, Vernon Lemire and Daniel Lemire, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sorenson-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin with Father Patrick J. Coyle officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Aitkin Veterans Posts.
Friends may call an hour before services Tuesday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
John Leckscheid, 67, Aitkin, died October 7, 2002, at the North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
He was born January 10, 1935, in Brainerd, the son of Martin and Florence (Yaeger) Leckscheid. He worked at the Medicin Lake Bus Company until his retirement. He owned the Loaf-N-Leisure Resort on Farm Island Lake in Aitkin.
Services were held October 11 at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor David Holte officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Leckscheid, Aitkin; son, Martin Leckscheid, Hastings; daughter; Isla Tangen, Rogers; Jo DeMaris, Osseo; and Darlene Jacobsone, Crystal; eight grandchildren;, brothers, Earl Edwards and Lacy Edwards, both of South Beloit, Illinois; and sisters; Ethel Mitchell, Ruby Walters and Gladys Greenland, all of Beloit, Wisconsin; Marie Sawyer, Baxter; Frances McClintock, South Beloit, Illinois; and Lucy Hanson, Janesvile, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements were with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Brainerd.
Lola May Larsen, 74, died Nov. 3, 2002, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
She was born April 2, 1928, in Swatara, the daughter of Thomas and Ella (Lewis) Bailey.
A private family service will be held.
She is survived by her son, David Larsen; daughters, Paula Reddy, Linda Larsen and Tracey Renn; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Owen Bailey; and sister, Betty Kovall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Larsen, and son, Harlan Larsen.
Arrangements were with the Nelson-Dorarn Funeral Home in Brainerd.
Cyrus F. Lamson, 90, Palisade, died December 24, 2002, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
He was born January 31, 1912, in Owatonna, the son of Henry and Minni Etta (Rist) Lamson. He atteded schools in Owatonna and graduated from the Owatonna High School in 1934. He moved to the Palisade area in 1935 and began farming with his brother Oliver. He married Hazel Smith on April 16, 1938, in Palisade. He and his wife then farmed on his wife's farm for many years. Hazel died in May of 1959. He continued to farm and also worked as a buttermaker for the Palisade Coop Creamery. He moved into Palisade about 15 years ago and has lived here since. He was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church.
Services were held Dec. 30 at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Normna officiating. Judy Blomberg played the organ, Pallbearers were Lester Mindrum, Dave Carlson, Roger Carlson, John Rian, Richard Cook and Earl Morris. Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Logan Township of Aitkin County.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Hazel, in 1959, two brothers and two sisters.

Robert B. Lamson, 53, Palisade, died Nov. 24, 2002, at his home.
He was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Aitkin, the son of Oliver and Ruby (Sanford) Lamson. He grew up and attended schools at Palisade and Aitkin graduating from Aitkin High School. He moved to Indiana and worked in the Steel Mills for a time. He then returned to Palisade and farmed. He moved to Wyoming and studied to be an Agriculture Specialist and worked for the Cenex Cooperative in that capacity. He moved to Detroit Lakes in 1977. He married Elizabeth T. Kohler on Oct. 19, 1979, in Detroit Lakes. He has worked as a professional truck driver since 1978. He worked for Gabor Trucking out of Detroit Lakes from 1978 to 1987, for Hammond Transport from 1987 to 1989 and for Halvor Lines from 1989 until present. He had received numerous citations and awards for safety in his years of driving. He and his wife had moved back to Palisade in 1985. He had served as a scoutmaster while in Detroit Lakes.
Services were held on Fri., Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Paul Fruth officiating. Pallbearers: Virgil Kohler, Thomas Kohler, Mark Kohler, Joey Stenger, William Prendergast, Simon George and Vince Bachman. Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery near Palisade.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, Palisade; son, Broderick J. Lamson, Palisade; and daughter, Krishna Lamson, Aurora, Col.; seven grandchildren; sisters: Becky Lamson, Mesa, Ariz; Lydia Berg, Palisade; Lori Matz, Zimmerman; brothers: Sheldon Lamson, Sparta, Wisc.; Larry W. Lamson, Lamoore, Calif.; four stepchildren: Jerome Jirava II, Palisade; Joleen Tvelt, Palisade, Jason Jirava, Audubon; Jennifer Jirava, Brainerd, and numerous nephew and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry; and daughters, Patty Anne and Bobby Sue.

Alizabeth K. Leathers, 13, Aitkin, died Dec. 15, 2002, at Elm Island Lake in Aitkin County.
She was born June 29, 1989, in Aitkin, the daughter of William and Sandra (Geske) Leathers. She has lived her whole life in the Aitkin area and was currently an eighth grader at the Aitkin Middle School. She was a member of the eighth grade choir, was involved in Girl Scouts, attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church, enjoyed reading and loved to fish. She had spent summers in Arnolds Park, Iowa, helping her grandmother at her restaurant, "Smoke and Jakes." She had earned enough money to buy a deer rifle and go deer hunting with her father the past two years.
Services were held Dec. 21, at the Bethlehem Lutheran church in Nordland Township near Aitkin with Rev. Jason Talsness officiating. Edie Orazen played the organ and Tom Nelson sang. Pallbearers were Chad Geske, Mike Leathers, Dylan Leathers, Dale Lindholm, Jacob Burckhardt and Steven Woodworth. Honorary pallbearers were Leah Kingsley, Andrea Driscoll, Vanessa Yarborough, Debbie Harmon and Jenny Burckhardt. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery near Wahkon.
She is survived by her parents, Bill and Sandra Leathers, Aitkin; brother, Craig Leathers, at home; sister, Katilee Leathers, at home; grandparents: Linda Geske and Sheldon Schultz, Tyler; Dale Geske and Louise Ferry, Benson; and Georgia Skoglund, Hopkins; great-grandparents: Asther and Cliff Presuhn, Marshall; Irene Geske, Marshall; Harold and Sophie Nelson, Pipestone; aunts and uncles: Chad Geske, Lori Leathers, Dan Simonson, Linda and L.B. Young, Kelly Hart; and numerous great-uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jerry Leathers.

Mary Lemire, 85, Aitkin, died June 23, 2003, in the Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.
She was born March 11, 1918, in Bowlus to Vincent and Anna (Czech) Klisch. She grew up in the Bowlus area, attending Bowlus Elementary School. She graduated in 1937 from St. Francis High School in Little Falls. She worked as a clerk at Kreske's 5 and 10 Store in Minneapolis. During World War II she worked in defense at McKlintoks and Munsingwear. She married John Lemire on June 5, 1945 in Bowlus. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and St. James Council of Catholic Women. She resided at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin for the past 12 years.
Funeral services were June 28 in St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Paul Fruth and Fr. Francis Paquette officiating.
Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Lori Lemire, Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Lemire, Colorado Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Gabrielle Lemire; sister, Agnes Fischer, Little Falls and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1993; brothers, Michael, Roman, Louis, and Edward Klisch, Hattie Karpinski, and Marge Birschbach; and her parents.
Arrangements were with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
William F. Lange, 88, Hill City, died October 6, 2003, at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids.
He was born August 20, 1915, to Herman and Wilhemina (Meyer) Lange in Rockwell City, Iowa. He attended schools in Rabey and Hill City. He attended Diesel school in the late '30s. In 1935 and 1936, William worked at Wilton and Blackduck in the Civilian Conservation Corp Camps. He later worked as a kesel instructor at the Navy Pier in Chicago. On May 21, 1944 he married Esther Bergdahl in Chicago. In 1949 they moved to Hill City where he worked as a custodian for School District #2 from 1952 until 1972. He also owned and operated Lange's Nursery in Hill City which he started in 1964. He was a member of the Hill City Legion Post and Hill City Golden Age Club and a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.
Funeral services were held October 10 at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids with the Rev. Mark Falck officiating. Burial was in the Hill Lake Cemetery in Hill Lake Township. Memorials are preferred to the St. Luke's building fund.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; daughters and sons-in-law, Katharine and Dean Holmquist, Mounds View, Martha and LeRoy Nyhus, Hutchinson, Elaine Lettermann, Virginia, and Ruth and Jay Trecker, Ackworth, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, William Jr. and Diane Lange, Layton, Utah, David and Bambi Lange, Hill City, Paul Lange, Grand Rapids, and Karl Lange, Mound; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siter, Edna Toven, Hill City.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers, two sisters, his parents and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Henrietta Lampert, 82, former McGregor resident, passed away Sunday at Spokane, Washington. (1970)
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday from Holy Family Catholic Church in McGregor with Fr. Van Zutphen officiating.
Interment will be in the Lansford Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root Funeral Home.
Tamarack – Mrs. Larson Passes Away
Mrs. Anna Larson passed away last Tuesday morning at her home in Balsam. She was a patient sufferer for some months from cancer, and her death was not unexpected.
Anna Bloom was born in Sweden in 1857 and came to America in 1882.
In 1885 she was married to John Larson, and to their union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, who, with their father, are left to mourn the absence of a loving and faithful wife and mother.
Mrs. Larson had lived in Balsam since 1906, and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
The funeral was held at the home and the remains were laid to rest in the Round Lake cemetery.

Pioneer Balsam Resident Passes
John Larson, a pioneer resident of Balsam, died Wednesday evening, April 3 after a short illness. Mr. Larson was born in Sweden 75 years ago and came to this country soon after the Civil War, settling first in Minneapolis. He came to Balsam 22 years ago, establishing a farm home in the wilderness.
The funeral was held in the Round Lake church. The Rev. Martin Johnson officiated, services taking place Friday afternoon.
Mr. Larson is survived by five children. The three sons are Henning and Edwin Larson of Balsam and Herbert Larson of Palisade. The daughters are Mildred and Myrtle of Balsam. Two grand-daughters also survive.

WWI
Henning A. Larson of Tamarack passed away Feb. 29, 1967 at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. He was the son of the late John and Anne Larson.
Funeral services were held Friday, Mar. 3, at 1:30 p.m. from the Round Lake Presbyterian church with the Rev. Herbert Peters of Grand Rapids officiating. Mrs. John Jackman played and Mrs. Eugene Peterson sang “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling” and “In the Garden.” Johnsons Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers included Harvey Knutson, Reuben Thompson, Wesley Boyer, Gunnar Hartzberg, Delbert Brekke and Wm. Onstad.
Internment was in the family lot at Round Lake Cemetery.
Mr. Larson was born Nov. 6, 1887, in Minneapolis. He moved with his father, mother brothers and sisters to Tamarack in 1906 where they took a homestead in Balsam Twp. Henning later filed on his own homestead on Shumway Lake. He enjoyed his farming very much and to many of the old friends was known as “Farmer.” Poor health caused him to give up farming several years ago.
He entered the armed service and served overseas with Co. D, 311 Eng. And returned home in the year 1919.
He is survived by two brothers, Edwin of Aitkin, and Herbert of McGregor; two sisters, Misses Myrtle and Mildred of St. Paul, and a number of nieces and nephews; also cousins in Tamarack, Minneapolis and Forest Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
Relatives attending from a distance were from St. Paul, Minneapolis, Coon Rapids and Forest Lake. Dick Larson and Mrs. Ronald Smith (Judy Larson), Misses Myrtle and Mildred Larson all of Minneapolis, Ed Larson of Aitkin, Mrs. Walter Skovnack, (Phyllis Larson), Mr. And Mrs. Paul Sather of Sandy Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson and son Dick of Sandy Lake, Mrs. Minnie Anderson, Balsam. Funeral was on Saturday afternoon at the Round Lake Presbyterian church. Mr. Larson passed away the middle of the week at a Minneapolis hospital.

Hugo John Larson died Sunday, April 17, of tuberculosis at the home of his father in Balsam township at the age of 31 years. He was a former service man, having served two years with the 32nd Engineers. Besides his father he leaves three sisters and four brothers. The funeral was held Tuesday at Balsam.

John Larson, Jr. 24 years old, of McGregor, died at his home February 18, from tuberculosis. Funeral services were held February 20.

Last rites were conducted from the Catholic Church in McGregor last Saturday morning for Mrs. Edwin Larson of Tamarack, who passed away Oct. 12, 1949, as the result of a stroke. Mrs. Larson had been in poor health for about a year.
The Rev. Fr. Ryan officiated at the ten o’clock mass.
Mrs. Larson was born Dec. 2, 1906 in Oshkosh, Wis. The family moved to Virginia, Minn., where she received her schooling and on January 7, 1925, she married Edwin Larson, at Deerwood. They made their home on a farm in Balsam township near Tamarack, where she lived until her death.
Mrs. Larson was active in the work of young people, serving as a 4-H club leader for many years. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband and son, Allen, her mother, Mrs. M. Boyer, all of Tamarack, daughters, Mrs. Nina Cole and Phyllis, Aitkin and her father, W. Boyer, Lewiston, Mont. Also surviving are several brothers and sisters; William, Charles and Florence Boyer of Tamarack, and other relatives, Mrs. James Boyer, Kenosha, Wis., Bernard Boyer, Waukegan, Ill., Wesley Boyer, Mrs. Mike Perpich and Cecelia Boyer, Tamarack.
Coming from out-of-town for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Boyer, Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. James Boyer, Kenosha, Wis., Misses Mildred and Myrtle Larson of St. Paul, Florence Ferguson and Betty Larson of Aitkin.
Serving as pallbearers were Ralph Green, Paul Knutson, Ted Knutson, Arthur Fisher, Richard Peterson and Harvey Health. Interment was at McGregor

Mr. Ed Larson, a former Balsam resident, age 83 passed away Saturday, September 4, 1977. He had been a patient at the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital for some time.
Funeral services were held in Minneapolis on Tuesday, September 6, at 10 a.m., with burial in Ft. Snelling Cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Alan of Minneapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Nina Cole of St. Paul and Mrs. (Phyllis) Walter Skavnak of Minneapolis; one brother, Herb Larson of Balsam; two sisters, Misses Myrtle and Mildred Larson of Minneapolis; several cousins, among them Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Tamarack; nieces and nephews and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Boyer; his parents; three brothers, Henning, Elmer and Hugo; and a sister, Nina. He was a veteran of World War II. Larson-Deenen Post in McGregor was named for Hugo Larson.
Attending the funeral from this area were Mr. and Mrs. Herb Larson, Ronald Cole (a grandson), Mr. and Mrs. William Onstad and Janet, cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sather (Marilyn Larson), a niece and nephew.

Herbert W. Larson 83, Rt. 3, McGregor, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1982.
He was born April 25, 1899, in Minneapolis. He came to the McGregor area in 1906. He was a retired logger and farmer, a member of the Round Lake Presbyterian Church and the Tamarack and Palisade sportsmen’s clubs.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Round Lake Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Mann officiating. Burial will be in Round Lake Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one son, Richard of Minneapolis; three daughters, Betty Kuehne of Coon Rapids, Marilyn Sather of McGregor and Judith Smith of Maplewood; two sisters, Mildred and Myrtle Larson, both of St. Paul; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Ruth S. Larson, 98, McGregor, died March 2, 2001, at Riverwood Extended Care Center in Aitkin.
She was born July 25, 1903, near Palisade, the daughter of Joseph W. and Emma (Goff) Sarff. She was the last surviving child of the pioneer Sarff family. She attended country schools near Palisade and then attended school in Duluth graduating from Morgan Park High School. She then attended Teacher Normal School in Duluth. She taught rural schools in Jacobson and Balsam Township. Ruth married Herbert W. Larson on June 21, 1928, in the Methodist Parsonage in Aitkin. They enjoyed 55 years of loving marriage before Herbert’s death in 1982. Ruth had been employed by the Klondike Lodge and Sathers Store for many years. Her expertise in baking was rewarded in the early 1950’s when she was a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake Off at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. She was a member of the Round Lake Presbyterian Church and was active in the church’s ladies’ groups, served on the Pioneer Villa Residents’ committee, had been active with Savanna State Park and was quite a local historian.
Services were held March 6 at the Round Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Munneke officiating. Thelma Jackson played the organ and Ruby Serfling sang. Pallbearers were grandchildren: Linda VanSlyke, Bob Sather, Don Sather, Lee Sather, Curt Sather, Susan Kuehne, Michael Kuehne, Mary Lyon, Elizabeth Larson, Joe Smith, Jon Smith and Trisa Lyn Anderson. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery.

Myrtle K. Larson, 94, St. Paul, formerly of McGregor, Minn., died June 20, 1996, at Midway Hospital.
She was born November 29, 1901 in Minneapolis, the daughter of John F. and Anna L. (Blom) Larson. She moved with her family at the age of four to Balsam Township in Aitkin County and homesteaded there. In 1929 she moved to St. Paul and worked as a housekeeper and also for the Maud Borup Candy company. She has resided in St. Paul since.
Services held June 23 from the Round Lake Presbyterian Church near McGregor with Rev. Gregory Wightman and Rev. Lauren Macan-Wightman officiating. Margaret Hawkinson was organist.
Pallbearers were Allen Larson, Michael Kuehne, Mark and Peter Cole, Robert, Donald and Curt Sather. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Mildred Larson of St. Paul; a sister-in-law, Ruth Larson of McGregor; two nephews, four nieces and numerous great-nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers: Carl, Henning, Hugo, Elmer, Edwin and Herbert; and two sisters: Hilma and Nina.
Arrangements were with the McGregor Funeral Home.

Mildred T. Larson, 95, St. Paul, died February 2, 2002, at the Anoka Care Center in Anoka. Funeral arrangements are pending with the McGregor Funeral Home in McGregor.
